This skirt by COMME DES GARCONS is typically confrontational, starting with a sober, black worsted wool for the main body but lining it with a lurid, purple and black polyester check. The lining is turned up at the hem to make it visible on the outside, held in place by an army camo print canvas which is stitched on top. This printed fabric was used throughout Kawakubo's collection for AW 2000, incorporated here at the hem and used similarly in other garments, stitched up the centre back of jackets and wrapped around the waist of trousers. Another interesting detail is the way large, deliberate tucks have been stitched down into the fabric and the hem has been roughly rolled over and sewn, further emphasising the garment's slightly ramshackle quality.
